Another day of changing diapers and cleaning up messes. Ang does have an intense sense of humor regarding "poop", I am much less likely to laugh after the past two days.... what a challenge!
Today's highlight was her listening to the nurse explain that she was going to get her wrist wound washed out with a solution that is half saline and half hydrogen peroxide. I asked Ang if she knew what saline was and she replied yes. I asked if she knew what hydrogen peroxide was and she gave me the chemical formula for it. Sort of on a joke, I asked her for the chemical formula for gold and she knew it. I asked her for the chemical formula for salt and she said NaCl but then informed me it really was sodium chloride. So matter of fact, so sure of herself.... wish I knew more periodic table entries from memory to engage more at this level. Rest assured I have printed out a periodic table for the next time this window opens. What a scientist!
Sundays are quiet, calmer, fairly unscheduled days so might be good days for you to consider regarding visiting. She received a visit from Ina, the Burmese Mountain Dog. Ang was not quite sure what to do about the dog but the dog sat quietly and waited and when the time seemed right just licked Ang's face. At that time, I could see Ang's hand tightly fisted in Ina's fur. What a visit! ! ! !
Again I request strong prayers for Josh and me. As caregivers, it is tough to give all your heart and then have Ang pull on your ear like she wanted it for herself (OUCH! ! !) or kick your jaw (OUCH, OUCH! ! ) or bite ! ! ! It is hard not to react. I had to give myself a time-out last night and do deep breathing. She is quite strong on that right side and it really hurts.
I echo Josh's request for prayers for Ang to sleep. It is obvious her brain is firing random shots from the bow and she is so determined not to miss any of them that she races within herself at extreme paces. She needs some calm! ! ! She needs some restorative sleep. [Seems funny that we spent 14 days wishing she would awaken and now 14 days later we are asking for her to get some sleep..... isn't life interesting?]
Speaking of sleep.... I am off to get some much needed some myself.
