Isn't my son-in-law amazing? Now that we do not have computer access in the room, I have to wait to read what he writes until the next evening. He is a delight and a blessing.
ANG DID SHOWER! ! ! She grabbed that hand held shower head and just reveled in the water beating down on her. She was positively gleeful...as gleeful as you can get with no facial expressions ... It was a fun thing to participate in.
She also MOVED THE LEFT FINGERS...albeit a little tiny move, it was done multiple times.....that girl will do absolutely anything for her husband. We are encouraged for more and more progress.... The OT lady today was so, so encouraging. Ang got all the A's on the paper with lightening speed. Ang is participating in dressing herself. Ang can apply her own chapstick appropriately....most of the time. The OT lady also applauded our decision to stop the sleeping aids as much as possible. We want to quiet her mind but we also want her to learn self-administered techniques. Ang is doing so well with the "take a deep breath and blow it out" relaxation method, she can often detect when she needs to do it before she is prompted. While she did not sleep more hours without the sleeping aid, she did spend her time in a quieter state with less agitation. Please pray for the restful sleep she so desperately needs....and the night crew needs too.
Tonight was our first night that both Josh and I went home. We left her in the care of Aunt Marian and I feel like a new Mom with a sitter.... I want to call every five minutes to check and see if all is going well. I (for one) am covered in scratches and pinch marks. One is never quite sure if Ang is going in for a kiss or a bite.....can be quite disconcerting. Hopefully she is behaving beautifully for my sister ... as most children do....save all that pent up anger and inappropriate energy for their Mom. I am guessing Josh will update you tomorrow on the outcome.
Your cards are definitely papering the walls. Ang has read each of them and they serve to prompt conversations about you and how you are special and connected within her life. She does comment on "how funny" a card is or relates some memory about you or someone in your family. It is awesome to see her connect the dots and begin to make piece her life together. I cannot read her the Bridge postings anymore but I tell her who wrote and that they said "hi". It is definitely another way to connect until she can read them herself or Park West gets us wireless connections (something that may happen as early as next week).
Aina (the dog) visited again today and Ang was ready. She petted, scratched ears, buried her hands in fur, gave doggie treats, and got licks.... A very fun thing to watch and share. Thank goodness Park West knows the healing power animals have. Thank you, thank you for sharing Aina.
You are all awesome and amazing and so very much appreciated as you think about us, keep us in your prayers and thoughts, and send us healing of body, mind, and spirit. We appreciate you.
