Another day down…
I wouldn’t necessarily say that I am happy, but I have felt much joy between last night and throughout the day today. Last night Ang slept from 8pm until about 3am. When she woke up we just talked for a couple of hours before her mom got back to the SNF. We talked about our wedding. It killed me when at first Ang couldn’t remember any of the details of our wedding (about a week ago), but last night she remembered where we had the wedding at (“At DAR up on the hill”, she said) She now has no trouble remembering our anniversary date or her birthday. I also asked her about the lady that we know that was a speech pathologist before she had children. She knew who it was right away! I no longer mind the late nights. It gives me a chance to snuggle with my wife and to try and jog her memory regarding our journey together prior to the accident and have some time to talk. We talked about what has happened and what the next steps of this season will entail. We talked about frustration and motivation. Ang has a tough time with OT and her motivation is now “babies”. I say, “Ang we have to push ourselves. How are you going to hold our babies if you only have one good arm? You have to push through the pain and the frustration so you can hold our children in your arms! We are with you every step of the way and we will not waiver in our support.” We continue to pray together of an evening and despite the pain that I feel through these moments I hold them very dear.
She is remembering more and more. Like I said before, we ask her questions and the answer is always on the tip of her tongue. She usually gets it right if we can give her a small prompt. Also, she was much calmer last night. I think that I only got a couple of pinches through the night. Thanks, Ang!
My step-mother , Marteal came by to visit today. She brought one of their dogs, Buster. Ang enjoyed petting him while he sat at the side of the bed. We also had a chocolate milkshake today after lunch, which Ang seemed to really enjoy!
I continue to be amazed by the tenacious spirit that the Lord has blessed my wife with. She pushed through her PT today despite being extremely tired. Her left leg continues to improve and with the reminders of her new “motivation ” she pushes herself even more. OT also went well today. We iced her arm for quite some time today before her session and I think it proved beneficial. Constant reminders of “motivation ” through her session. She held my hand and agreed to not hit the OT unless he bent her arm too much. No slaps today! She even picked up her left arm with her right and helped the OT massage her arm. Her range of motion is improving and she is squeezing her fingers more! She is now also complaining of pain in the left side of her face and arm. This is great news because it means that the nerves are waking up and transitioni ng from the “pins and needles” stage.
She has no problems with her chair transitions now. She always knows which leg she needs to put her weight on and is feeling for the arm of the chair more prior to sitting down. She is helping more and more with her daily needs. Changing, bathroom, shower, etc.
Angela- I am SO proud of you! You are and always will be my heart. I love you, Meow.
