Lots of sleep for Ang appears to be the norm now. She slept from 7:30 until 5:00 this morning. I even caught her sleeping on her stomach last night, which is a first.
I missed Ang’s OT session this morning, but I heard that it went well. I was busy getting anniversary goodies together. Her wedding ring was damaged in the accident so she hasn’t been able to wear it since 8/18. I got it back today good as new and couldn’t wait until Thursday to give it to her. She got her rock back as soon as I got back to Park West. She was SO happy and her ring was back right where it belongs. She insisted on giving me the anniversary card that she made for me early. It was beautiful. Only a few sentences long, but that was all she needed to fill my heart with joy and my eyes with tears. She even put some kitty stickers on it with two snuggling kitties representin g us and two other Siamese kitties filling in as Genghis and Suki. It is the best, most touching card I have ever received.
Speech Therapy went well today also. Ang still remembered the phone number from yesterday as well as a bunch of other information that I had forgotten. Ang and I always joke about my CRS syndrome.. The ST had her run through a bunch of exercises to evaluate how long she could focus. She aced all of the exercises that he had for her and even wrote a couple of stories recounting some of her college experiences. You are amazing, Ang! The ST didn’t know what else to do with her after that so it is good that we will be transitioni ng to Harborview. New ST folks with new approaches that will continue to push her with her cognitive therapies will be wonderful.
Not a surprise, but PT went well too. Park West just got a new contraption called a Lite Gait. It is a treadmill with a crane device incorporate d. Ang was the first person to break the thing in and it helped the PT folks work out all the bugs. There is a harness that attaches to the crane that was fitted around Ang’s mid-section to help her maintain her balance, enabling her to focus on her coordinatio n and movement. She was skeptical at first, but then she found her stride and did 10 minutes of walking without even realizing it. She is doing much better with her left leg and is working on planting her foot “heel to toe”. After that was over, Ang walked all the way back to her room!
Not sure what tomorrow will bring, but there is word of a party in honor of Ang to be held by the staff at Park West. I know that the therapists that she has worked with are as proud of her as we are. Teresa and I will be busy packing up the mountain of “stuff” that has accumulated in Ang’s room.
Thank you all for your prayers as we transition into the next phase of this journey with Ang.
