Sunday was truly a day of rest! We did NOTHING all day. Angela drifted in and out of sleep with a few visitors and a much needed massage. What a day followed by another restful night.... went to sleep about 8:30 and woke at 11:30 but went right back to sleep until 4:00am. I was in the middle of a real whopper of a dream where Angela was getting sucked into the toilet so it took me a minute or two to wake up. Angela did get quite a kick out of my disorientation and, of course, the topic. What a kid!
Harborview appointment went well. This lady is the one assigned to her for all her brain injury follow-ups. She was warm, friendly, thorough, and competent. At one point Angela asked her if she had a sense of humor to which the doc replied, "only on Tuesday". Angela loved this answer and after only a second or two asked the doc if it was OK to tell her a funny story anyway since today was Monday. The doc was impressed and Ang got to tell the Silence of the Lambs story again! This doctor got it and this doctor confirmed that Angela is ready for in-patient therapy so WE ARE OFF TO HARBORVIEW ON THURSDAY MORNING!
Angela will be making special Anniversary breakfast for her husband (as part of occupational therapy) and then we will get to move back to Harborview.
All schedules will be completely changed so bear with us as we discover what the new schedules are. We will update the website for assistance as we better learn what the new needs are but as of Wednesday we will not be having any readers in the afternoon or evenings. We cannot thank you all enough for being willing to do this. It was so very helpful.
In Speech Therapy today Angela won a grilled cheese sandwich and a latte from her therapist. The task was to look at five pictures....have him mix them up .... and put them back in order. Of course she did 5 with no problem, 8 with no problem, 10 with no problem..... 15 earned her the latte but 21 got her the grilled cheese! I know I couldn't remember 21 cards and I noted that her therapist wrote down the 15 and the 21 pattern .... He had also asked her to remember a man's name, his phone number, three random items, and the placement of a straw in the room. Randomly he would ask her for the phone number or the man's name or the three items.... I have to tell you, I NEVER got the phone number correct but Angela did each time. Sure does give a person hope.
OT stretched the arm again. Will it ever work on it's own???? This is the question that plagues all of us in our own ways. Angela, Josh, me, the therapists.... we shall see.
PT had Ang walking....ankle taped, more strengthening exercises, and just plain gumption. Still a long ways to go.
Josh and I had a chance to have a bite to eat and catch up on some of the stuff that is associated with our journey thanks to Marian coming for a visit. As you already know, Josh is very special and all your prayers for him are being put to great use. He is juggling more balls than anyone might expect to juggle and still has the wherewithall to crack a joke or say something that catches us off guard. What a blessing!
G'night all.... (we will have internet access at Harborview so we can more easily share the bridge with Angela and you may actually see updates from her).
