She did indeed open her eyes again and again today for brief moments. We do find that soft, quiet, slowly paced voices and single faces seem to bring the longest time with an open eye. We also discovered that her left eye is still too swollen to open fully but we did get glimpses of both her beautiful blue eyes today.
Sometimes it was hard to see her because I was crying too hard.
Later in the day, after a much deserved nap, Ang was visited by the speech pathologist. She received her first swallow test. Can she protect her airway? Will she aspirate food? Turns out that today, Angela can sip tiny teaspoons of water and chew small ice cubes BUT she does not swallow quickly enough to prevent build up of liquid in her mouth. This will come but the speech lady wants a little more time before deciding on taking out the feeding tube or putting in a tummy peg (for tummy feeding).
We did get a good laugh when Ang grabbed the spoon from the the speech lady (her name is Joyce) and Joyce gave Ang the spoon and asked her where it goes. ANG KNEW ! ! ! She fairly flew that spoon directly into her mouth. My girl knows food!
What a day.
As Josh pointed out, we could not have been lower this morning if we had tried. I just asked God and the Holy Spirit to help me and I got so much more than I could ever have imagined possible. Please send your prayers of thankfulness along with your prayers for continued progress. There is a lot more to do but we took A GIANT STEP forward today at a time when Josh and I really, really needed it.
